What should I bring?

Please wear comfortable athletic clothing and tennis shoes suitable for court movement. Bring a tennis racket, water, sunscreen, a hat, and any other essentials needed for a comfortable on-court experience.  I recommend bringing your own racket, but please contact me before your lesson if you’d like to discuss equipment options.

Parent Observation and Questions

Absolutely! Parents and guardians are welcome to watch the lessons and ask questions before or after a session. Open communication is encouraged to help ensure players feel supported and continue to progress both on and off the court.

What happens during my first lesson?

Your first lesson will begin with a brief introduction and assessment of your current skill level, goals, and experience. From there, your coach will tailor the session to your needs and create a plan to help you continue progressing.

May I book lessons for multiple players?

Yes! Lessons can be arranged for individuals, siblings, family members, or friends depending on the coaching format and availability. Contact JL Tennis if you’re unsure which option is the best fit for your group.

How often should my child take tennis lessons?

Consistency is key! While doing group lessons, one to two private lessons per week is a great starting point. For building skills, improving technique, and developing confidence.

What is the difference between recreational and competitive junior tennis?

Recreational tennis focuses on learning, having fun, and building fundamentals. Competitive tennis emphasizes skills, match strategy, and tournament preparation.

Policies

Payment & Booking

Payment is required at the time of booking. Once a lesson is scheduled, both you and your coach are committed to that reserved time. The lesson is scheduled for both schedules, with the expectation that you will arrive and be ready at the designated time.

Parent & Guardian Responsibility

For players under 18, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for providing accurate contact and emergency information, ensuring the player arrives on time with the necessary equipment, water, and appropriate attire, and communicating any relevant needs or concerns with the coach.  Needs communicated prior, arrangements for return after the session has ended have also been communicated prior. Parents and guardians are welcome to observe lessons and ask questions, and should remain available or communicated when necessary for younger players.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations or schedule changes must be made at least 48 hours before the lesson to transfer your payment to a future session. Cancellations or changes made within 48 hours will result in the loss of payment. Late changes hinder the coach’s schedule, may create court costs, and prevent that time from being offered to another student. No-shows are nonrefundable.

Late policy

Lessons begin and end at the designated times. If you arrive late, the lesson will still end at the originally scheduled time, and full payment is required. For example, if your lesson is scheduled from 9:00–10:00 a.m. and you arrive at 9:30 a.m., you will receive only the remaining 30 minutes of instruction and still be charged for the full hour.

Weather Policy / Court Conditions

If weather conditions make a lesson and or court unsafe and or impractical, JL Tennis may cancel or reschedule the session. Weather-related notices and cancellations will be communicated as soon as possible, and payment will be transferred to a future session. Safety always comes first.

Coach Cancellation & Rescheduling

If Coach Jackson needs to cancel or reschedule a lesson due to illness, an emergency, weather, or an unforeseen scheduling conflict, the client will be notified as soon as possible. The lesson can be rescheduled to a future available time, or the client may choose to receive a full refund for the canceled session. Your time and payment are respected just as much as ours.

Liability Waiver & Assumption of Risk

Before booking a lesson, all players or their parent/legal guardian (for minors) must review and sign the required liability waiver and assumption of risk agreement. These forms are a standard safety protocol designed to help protect JL Tennis LLC, the coach, and all participating players by ensuring everyone understands the potential risks associated with tennis instruction and physical activity. A completed and signed waiver is required before a lesson can be booked.

Injury & Medical Safety

Player safety is a top priority at JL Tennis. Players or their parent/legal guardian must communicate any injuries, physical limitations, or relevant medical concerns that could affect participation before the lesson begins. If an injury or safety concern arises during a session, the coach may modify, pause, or end the lesson as necessary. Emergency contact information must be provided for all minor participants. These procedures help maintain a safe environment for the coach and every player.

Player Conduct & Court Etiquette

Players are expected to follow coaching instructions, respect other players and facility users, use equipment appropriately, and maintain a safe, positive environment. A lesson may be ended if behavior creates a safety concern or if any kind of disrespect is shown towards the coach.
